Newcomer to the Greek A1 League AEK Athens produced a big surprise in the 11th round of the national championship.
AEK defeated Peristeri 10:7 and jumped from 12th to 10th place in the standings.

AEK had a great start in the match against Peristeri and earned a 4:1 lead in the first quarter. Peristeri reduced the gap by the end of the first period (4:5), but AEK regained a 3-goal lead in the third quarter (8:5) and maintained the difference until the final buzzer. Nikola Vukcevic, Stellatos, and Papakos scored two goals each for the winning team. Gerakoudis and Karountzos scored two goals for Peristeri.
Reigning champion Olympiacos played two matches this weekend and posted two big wins. On Friday, the red-whites from Piraeus defeated Ydraikos 19:8 in the postponed match of Day 6. The best scorers were Hannes Daube, Georgios Dervisis and Konstantinos Kakaris. Each found the net three times.
Today, Olympiacos blew away Volos (20:3) and climbed into first place in the standings. Kakaris topped the scorer’s list with fur goals. Olympiacos has three points more than Vouliagmeni, but the champion has played two matches more than Vouliagmeni, which will face Ydraikos in the 11th round. That derby has been postponed because Vouliagmeni played in the LEN Euro Cup yesterday.
The most exciting match of the day was an encounter between Chania and PAOK, played on Greeceโs largest island, Crete. The game was an even contest. PAOK took an early 4:1 lead, but Chania reduced the gap before the end of the first period (4:5). Chania entered the final quarter leading 11:10. PAOK regained the lead in the fourth period (13:12). But, the hosts went in front (14:13) a minute before the end. Just 50 seconds from the final buzzer, PAOKโs Giannopoulos scored his fifth goal to set the final score โ 14:14. Besides Giannopoulos, Filip Radojevic scored five goals for PAOK. Batakis, Williams, and Bogdanovic were the best scorers in the team of Chania (three goals each).
Palaio Faliro beat Chios after a great come back. Chios had a 6:5 advantage at the end of the third period. Palaio Faliro scored four goals in a row in the final eight minutes for a 9:6 victory.
Panionios started slowly, but it demolished Ethnikos โ 8:1. As expected, Apollon Smyrnis convincingly beat Glyfada (11:5).
