The top four ranked teams – Vouliagmeni, Peristeri, Olympiacos, and Apollon – recorded convincing wins in round 8 of the Greek League.
Still, this round brought a pretty surprising result – Apollon ran over 5th-placed Ydraikos (19:2) in the derby match.

The derby Ydraikos – Apollon turned into a one-sided contest shortly after the beginning. Apollon rushed to a 6:0 lead in the first quarter. By halftime, the visitors increased the margin to ten (11:1) and there was no way back for Ydraikos. Montenegrin Nikola Moskov netted six goals for Apollon. Solanakis scored five, and Gounas four. Goalkeeper Costas Galanidis also did a good job.
The league-leader Vouliagmeni recorded two convincing wins in its rehearsal for the LEN Euro Cup semifinals. On Tuesday, Vouliagmeni trashed Chania 26:6 in the match of the 7th round. Aristeidis Chalyvopoulos topped the scorers’ list with six goals. A day later, Vouliagmeni, playing with a rejuvenated squad, cruised to a win over Volos (17:1). A 17-year-old Nikolaos Kastranikis was the best scorer of the match (4 goals). On Saturday, Vouliagmeni will play against OSC in Budapest in the 1st leg of the LEN Euro Cup semifinals.
Olympiacos beat PAOK 16:4. Hannes Daube found the net four times, Konstantinos Genidounias added three goals.
Peristeri hosted Chiosm and earned a 4:0 lead in the first eight minutes, which proved crucial for the outcome. Peristeri recorded a 12:8 victory.
