A few months ago, Pro Recco announced that Aaron Younger would be leaving the club at the end of the season.
Today, the Italian club and the Australian player officially bid each other farewell. As Recco announced today, Younger (34) will return to his homeland to retire from playing water polo, thus putting an end to an extraordinary career.
Younger arrived in European water polo in 2010 and played for five clubs (Szeged, Jug Dubrovnik, Szolnok, Ferencvaros, and Pro Recco). He is one of just 13 players who have won five Champions League trophies or more. He did it with Szolnok (2017), Ferencvaros (2019), and Pro Recco (2021, 2022, 2023). Besides, Younger is the only one who lifted the trophy in four consecutive final tournaments (2019 – 2023, as the 2020 season was canceled).
Besides two Champions League titles, Younger won seven national cups, three national championships, and three European Super Cups, playing for the Hungarian clubs.
During his five seasons in Recco (2020- 2025), the Australian ace was one of the key players and won 15 trophies, finishing his career with a trophy in the 2025 Euro Cup.
"I wanted to end my career with a beautiful story to tell, and so it was; we won three wonderful titles in the 2024/25 season. The two goals scored in the 2022 Champions League final, which started the comeback in the fourth quarter, were the most important for me while playing for Pro Recco. The last games of that season were challenging; I was afraid that if we lost, my career would not end the way I wanted. After the Euro Cup final, I was relieved; everything had gone as I had hoped. Now in Australia, I will detox a bit from water polo for at least 2-3 years; I spent 14 seasons in Europe, so I will take a different path", Younger said, after the departure from Recco, among other things.
