After winning the title at the Montenegrin Championships, legendary player Aleksandar Ivovic confirmed that he ended his illustrious career.
Ivovic, 39, played for only three clubs during his 23-year career at the senior level. He began his water polo journey with Jadran Herceg Novi, playing there until 2010 before moving to Pro Recco. After two seasons at Recco, he joined Jug in 2012 but returned to Recco the following year.
Last summer, Ivovic said goodbye to Recco and returned to Jadran to conclude his career at the club where he started playing water polo.
Ivovic won three medals while representing the national teams of Serbia and Montenegro: a gold medal at the Universiade, a bronze at the Mediterranean Games, and a gold at the World Junior Championships. From 2007 to 2021, he was a one of the key members of the Montenegrin national team, contributing to clinching 12 medals: four at the European Championships (gold in 2008, silver in 2012 and 2016, and bronze in 2020), one at the World Championships (silver in 2013), six in the World League (including three golds, one silver, and two bronze), and a bronze at the 2018 Mediterranean Games. With Ivovic on the team, Montenegro finished in fourth place at three consecutive Olympic Games (2008, 2012, and 2016).
While playing for Recco, Ivovic reached the pinnacle of European water polo, winning five Champions League trophies, four European Super Cups, and numerous domestic titles. He served as Recco's captain for several years. At Jadran, he secured the titles of national champion of Serbia and Montenegro, and later, Montenegro. He also won the Croatian championship with Jug and two Regional League titles—one with Jadran and another with Pro Recco.
Although primarily a defender, Ivovic scored many goals throughout his career, including several crucial ones in important finals.
One of the greatest players of all time.
