One of the most significant transfers in water polo this summer has been officially confirmed.
Today, Pro Recco announced that Alvaro Granados had become a member of the 11-time European champion. Â
Granados made his debut for Barceloneta in 2017 after transferring from Terrassa, and he won a Champions League bronze medal in his first season. He played for the best Spanish club until 2022, when he joined Novi Beograd. Playing for the Serbian club, he clinched a silver medal in the 2023 Champions League and was voted for the Final Eight MVP. Next season, Granados finished in 4th place in the Champions League with Novi Beograd.
Last summer, he signed a contract with Pro Recco, but did not join the team due to a financial crisis that threatened the future of the Italian club. Therefore, Recco couldn't bring in Granados. He decided to return to Barceloneta and recently won another bronze in the Champions League.
Granados was the best scorer in the previous three editions of the Champions League. He scored 47 goals in 14 matches in the recently finished 2024/25 season.
Meanwhile, Recco, supported by new sponsors and owners, overcame the crisis, returned to the winning path, and won the triple crown in the last season and started composing a new team with many stars.
Playing for Barceloneta and Novi Beograd, Granados won a number of trophies in domestic championships and the 2024 Regional league.
His medal collection with the Spanish national team is quite impressive, featuring gold medals from the 2022 World Championships, the 2024 European Championships, and two editions of the World Cup (2023 and 2025). The only medal eluding him is an Olympic medal.
Granados has received many individual awards at major competitions, with the most recent being the MVP trophy for the best player of the 2025 World Cup Final Eight in Podgorica.
But, Granados' arrival at Recco is just the beginning of the Euro Cup winner's additions. Several great players are expected to join Recco, with official confirmations in the coming days.Â
