Angelos Vlachopoulos's departure from Novi Beograd a few days ago was somewhat surprising, considering there had been indications that he would continue with the Champions League silver medalists.
However, today's news that he will be joining Radnicki is not particularly unexpected. Since last summer, Radnički, backed by its sponsors, has dominated the transfer market not only in Serbia but beyond. Therefore, it was anticipated that the club management would seize the opportunity to bring a free agent like Vlachopoulos to Kragujevac.
Vlachopoulos has been one of Novi Beograd’s key players over the past four seasons. Prior to that, he played for Vouliagmeni and Olympiacos in Greece, as well as for Posillipo and Brescia in Italy, and Eger in Hungary.
His most significant accomplishments with the Greek national team include winning a silver medal at the Tokyo 2021 Olympic Games and bronze medals at the Kazan 2015 and Budapest 2022 World Championships. In the 2020/21 season, he was the top scorer in the Champions League. Vlachopoulos played with Novi Beograd at the Champions League final tournaments four times, winning three silver medals. He also contributed to all Novi Beograd's domestic trophies.
"In the previous seasons, I could see what Radnicki club is like, and I believe I made the right decision to continue my career here. The club aims to be at the top, is very well organized and serious, and our ambitions align", Vlachopoulos said and Radnicki reported it in its statement.
The Greek ace is Radnicki's fifth reinforcement for the new season, after Andrija Prlainovic, Sava Randjelovic, Nikola Dedovic and Viktor Rasovic.
Two departures have been confirmed so far: Drasovic to Marseille and Gavrilovic on loan to Sabac.
