Sabac, the third-placed team in the 2025 Serbian League, has signed two new players for the upcoming season.
The club confirmed that Montenegrin Darko Djurovic will join as a new goalkeeper. In addition, Australian Matthew Byrns has also arrived in the team.
Djurovic, 25, played for Jadran Herceg Novi prior to the move to Serbia. From 2021 to 2025, he was Jadran’s starting goalkeeper. Playing for the Herceg Novi-based team, he helped Jadran secure five national cups, five Montenegrin championships, and two third-place finishes in the Regional League. He also competed in both the Champions League and the Euro Cup. On the international stage, Djurovic represented Montenegro in two World Cup editions, in 2023 and 2025.Â
The 24-year-old Matt Byrns has won four Australian Championships. His previous club was UNSW Wests Magpies. Before arriving at Sabac, he had a brief experience in European club water polo, spending a year in Spain with Sant Andreu. Byrns also represented Australia at the 2024 Olympic Games, where the "Sharks" finished in 8th place.
