Gianmarco Nicosia, currently Italy’s first-pick goalkeeper, moved to Pro Recco.
He arrives from Savona and will replace Marco Del Lungo, who was Recco’s goalkeeper for four years (2021 – 2025). Del Lungo will probably join Savona.
Nicosia, 27, played for Roma Vis Nova, Sport Management, and Telimar Palermo before joining Savona in 2022.
He has been a regular member of the Italian national team for several years. However, in previous seasons, he wasn’t the starting goalkeeper in most matches. Given that Del Lungo won’t play for Italy this summer, Nicosia will take more responsibility at the World Championships in Singapore.
Nicosia won the 2019 World Championships with Italy and has two silver medals at the World Championships (2022 and 2024), gold in the last edition of the World League (2022), silver in the inaugural edition of a new World Cup (2023), and bronze at the 2024 European Championships.
He played in the 2022 Euro Cup final with Telimar and participated in the 2025 Champions League with Savona.
Nicosia signed a three-year contract with Recco.
Pro Recco has confirmed three reinforcements so far – Alvaro Granados, Max Irving and Gianmarco Nicosia. In the following days, official announcements regarding other arrivals will be made. Croatia’s defender Rino Buric will come from Jug. Australian Luke Pavillard will return to European water polo to join Pro Recco. Andrea Mladossich will come from Trieste, etc.
