Ben Hallock, the captain of the Olympic bronze medalists, left Pro Recco after winning the Euro Cup. Still, the most decorated Italian team will have an American player on its roster next season.
Max Irving, who has been one of Team USA’s key players for several seasons, left Brescia to join Pro Recco. He signed a two-year contract with Recco, the club announced today.
The 30-year-old attacker made his debut for Team USA in 2017 and has played at the Olympic Games twice, winning bronze in Paris last year. Additionally, he clinched the 2023 World Cup bronze medal, representing the USA, as well as two Pan American Games titles. This summer, he replaced Ben Hallock as the captain of Team USA.
During his college water polo career, he competed for UCLA and helped the team win the 2017 NCAA Championships.
Irving has played in Europe since 2017. First, he played for Posillipo Naples. In 2018, he joined Greek Ydraikos. Two years later, he moved to Olympiacos. After one season at the Piraeus-based team, Irving signed a contract with Telimar Palermo. He played in Sicily for two seasons before joining Brescia in 2023. In the past two years, he was one of the key players of the second-best Italian club. He won the Italian Cup with Brescia in 2024. Irving scored 62 goals for Brescia in the 2025 Serie A1.
Irving is Recco's second confirmed new signing this summer, following Alvaro Granados, but the list of reinforcements is expected to be long.
As for departures, Pro Recco said goodbye to Aaron Younger (retired), Marco Del Lungo (it's expected to join Savona), Ben Hallock (returns to the USA to graduate), Gonzalo Echenique (it is expected to join Barceloneta), Bence Haverkampf (returned to Ferencvaros), Petar Vujosevic, and Jack Larsen.
Francsecso Di Fulvio, Andrea Fondelli, Nicholas Presciutti, second goalkeeper Tomaso Negri, and Slovak Lukas Durik prolonged their contracts with Pro Recco.
