Ydraikos earned an away win over Peristeri in the 1st match (10:9 after a penalty shootout), and had a great chance to close the quarterfinals on home soil. Still, the hosts haven’t an easy task. They played without a coach. Both coaches of Apollon were suspended because of the red cards in the first match.
Peristeri’s goalkeeper Karabetsos (44-year-old) had a great day, he conceded only one goal. The result says it all about the match. Peristeri’s defense was outstanding and therefore only five goals in Ydriakos’ net were enough for a convincing win. At halftime, the visitors led 2:0. Ydriakos converted a penalty shot to half the deficit (1:2). However, the visitors scored three unanswered goals until the end. Peristeri took back the home advantage and extended the series.
Apollon cruised to the semifinals. Apollon recorded a 13:6 victory in the first match. The second game played in Thessaloniki. The visitors earned a 5:0 lead before PAOK found the net for the first time. Shortly after, Apollon built a 7:1 advantage, and there was no way back for PAOK.
Apollon will play against Olympiacos in the semifinals. Vouliagmeni waits for a winner of the duel Peristeri-Ydraikos.
