The series of matches in the finals of the Hungarian League continued at the Komjadi pool. Although Vasas was the official host for today’s game, the outcome remained unchanged from Wednesday’s encounter between the top two clubs in the country. . Ferencvaros emerged again victorious, winning by two goals – 14:12. The final scores were almost identical (on Wednesday, Ferencvaros recorded a 15:13 victory). This win gives Ferencvaros a “match point” in the best-of-five series, as it has a chance to clinch the title in the next game scheduled for next weekend.
Today, Vasas was never in front, but it persistently chased the reigning champion throughout the game. It was a high-intensity game with a lot of swimming, shots, and goals. Neither of the teams was complete. Vasas’ coach Slobodan Nikic couldn’t count on Nikola Dedovic, while Balazs Nyeki (Ferencvaros) fielded the team without Stylianos Argyropoulos.
Ferencvaros led in the first quarter – 2:0 and 3:2, but Vasas managed to catch up, and the teams were tied at 3:3 by the end of the first break. In the second quarter, Ferencvaros tightened its defense and went on a 3:0 run, with Marton Vamos extending the lead to 6:3 in the 13th minute. Still, Vasas responded by narrowing the gap with two power-play goals for 5:6. However, Ferencvaros did not allow their rivals to equalize. Vendel Vigvari scored from a 6-on-5 to close the first half, and the reigning champions entered the second half with a 7:5 lead.
Dusan Mandic got on the scoresheet in Ferencvaros’ first possession in the second half, increasing the margin to three – 8:5. Vasas came close to the rival with goals from Djurdjic and Mijic (7:8). The hosts closed the gap to a goal once more (8:9). Still, Ferencvaros netted twice in the last minute and a half (Vigvari and Manhercz) and earned an 11:8 advantage after three quarters. Edoardo Di Somma made it 12:8 in Ferencvaros’ first possession in the fourth period. That 3:0 run between the 23rd and 25th minutes proved pivotal, as Vasas could not recover anymore. However, the hosts fought hard until the very end. Vasas quickly cut the deficit with goals from Djurdjic and Randjelovic. In response, Gergo Fekete scored twice within just 64 seconds, giving Vasas a 14-10 lead with 4 minutes and 30 seconds left on the clock, effectively securing the win. Despite this, Vasas didn’t give up and netted two late consolation goals.
Even though there were 26 goals in the match, the goalkeepers did their job well. Vasas’ Mizei posted 12 saves, while Ferencvaros’ Soma Vogel blocked 14 shots. The best scorers were Bogdan Djurdjic (Vasas) with four goals and Ferencvaros’ Marton Vamos and Vendel Vigvari with three goals each
