The final of the Hungarian League playoffs kicked off with a thrilling and high-scoring match between Ferencvaros and Vasas, drawing a nearly full crowd at the famous Komjadi Pool.
Ferencvaros secured a 15:13 victory, extending its unbeaten streak in domestic competitions. In the middle of the fourth quarter, the teams were tied at 13:13. Then, Dusan Mandic decided the match with two goals. The second game of the best-of-five series is scheduled for Sunday at the same venue, with Vasas officially the host team.

Vasas took an opening (and its only) lead after Djurdjic converted a man-up. Ferencvaros responded with two goals and dictated the pace. Late into the first period, “Fradi” earned a 2-goal lead for the first time. Szilard Jansik made it 4:2 from a counterattack, but immediately after, Dedovic found the net, and Vasas was a goal behind the hosts before the second quarter (3:4).
Early in the second quarter, Manhercz doubled Ferencvaros’s advantage. Vasas was leveled by the middle of the quarter (5:5). Then, Stylianos Argyropoulos took the stage. The Greek netted three power-play goals in two minutes and gave Ferencvaros an 8:5 lead. The reigning champion had a 9:6 advantage in the 15th minute, but Vasas reduced the gap with two goals in the 16th minute, 8:9, to get back into the game.

In the third period, Ferencvaros rebuilt a 3-goal lead twice (12:9 and 13:10), but Vasas didn’t surrender. Soma Lakatos closed this quarter with a goal for 11:13.
Vasas equalized early in the fourth quarter by scoring two goals in less than a minute. First, Sava Randjelovic hit the back of the net from a distance, followed quickly by Lakatos, who scored with an extra player on the field, making it 13:13. Mandic then stopped Vasas’ 3:0 scoring run by putting Ferencváros ahead 14:13. After several unsuccessful attacks from both teams, Mandic scored again. It was his fourth goal. He gave Ferencvaros a 15:13 lead with just 2:18 left on the clock. For the remainder of the match, “Fradi” maintained a 2-goal advantage.
