Italyβs head coach, Alessandro Campagna, has selected 15 players to compete in the World Championships in Singapore.
Among the chosen players, four will be making their debuts at major competitions: Mario Del Basso, Filippo Ferrero, goalkeeper Tommaso Baggi Necchi (all from Brescia), and Francesco Cassia (from Ortigia). None of them have previously participated in the World Championships, European Championships, or Olympic Games.
The team is slightly younger, but it still maintains a core of experienced players, including Francesco Di Fulvio, Edoardo Di Somma, Alessandro Velotto… Gianmarco Nicosia will be the first goalkeeper for the first time.
Giacomo Canella and Luca Damonte, who both competed at the European and World Championships last year (where the “Settebello” won bronze and silver, respectively) but missed the Olympic Games, have returned to the team.
In comparison to the Olympic roster, goalkeeper Marco Del Lungo, Gonzalo Echenique, Andrea Fondelli, and Vincenzo Renzuto will not participate in the Singapore tournament due to recovering from injuries or other reasons. None of them took part in the preparations this summer.
