Italian water polo powerhouse Pro Recco has not yet confirmed any of its incoming reinforcements, but it is certain that several excellent players will be joining the Italian champion and Euro Cup winner.
The biggest reinforcement comes from Spain. After a one-year delay, Alvaro Granados is set to join Pro Recco. He signed a contract last year after leaving Novi Beograd; however, due to financial difficulties at Pro Recco (which have since been resolved), Granados returned to Barceloneta. Now everything is in place for his arrival.
As we already published, Gianmarco Nicosia from Savona will be the new goalkeeper.
Additionally, Team USA player Max Irving, who won an Olympic bronze medal in Paris, will also move to Pro Recco after spending two seasons at Brescia. With seven years of experience in European water polo, he has previously played for Ydraikos and Olympiacos in Greece, as well as Telimar Palermo in Italy.
Another non-European player joining the team is 29-year-old Australian Luke Pavillard, who had been at Barceloneta for a few years. This season, he played in his home country for Fremantle. Last summer, he was one of Australia’s best players at the Olympic Games, scoring 14 goals in seven matches.
The list of Pro Recco’s reinforcements does not end with these four names. Andrea Mladossich, a 23-year-old who left Trieste to move to Pro Recco, won a gold medal with Italy at the 2019 European U17 Championships and made his senior national team debut in 2021. In recent seasons, he has been one of Trieste’s key players.
Regarding departures, Pro Recco confirmed that seven players wouldn’t continue with the club for the next season.
It has been previously announced that Marco Del Lungo, Aaron Younger, and Ben Hallock are leaving the club. Del Lungo will move to Savona, while Younger and Hallock return to Australia and the USA respectively.
Left-handed goal scorer Gonzalo Echenique, who played for Recco for nine seasons and won 21 trophies, has also departed, with speculation that he may return to Barceloneta.
Additionally, Pro Recco has bid farewell to two young players: Hungarian Bence Haverkampf, who was on a one-year loan from Ferencvaros, and Montenegrin Petar Vujosevic.
