For the ninth consecutive season, Waspo 98 Hannover and Spandau 04 will meet in the final of the German League playoffs.
Waspo 98 Hannover advanced to the final with two convincing wins in the semifinals, while Spandau 04 faced a challenging series against ASC Duisburg.
Waspo, finishing first in the regular season, played against OSC Potsdam in the semifinals and secured victories by double-digit margins. In the match in Potsdam, Waspo won 19:8, and followed that up with another strong performance at home, winning 19:5.
The two games between Spandau 04 and ASC Duisburg were highly exciting. Spandau won the first match in Duisburg by two goals – 12:10. The second duel was filled with dramatic twists. ASC Duisburg led 8:5 deep into the second quarter, but Spandau rallied to take a slim lead in the third period (9:8, 10:9, and finally 11:10). However, the teams were tied at 11:11 before the final quarter. Five minutes before the end, Matten gave Duisburg a new lead at 12:11. Shortly after, Yanek Chiru equalized for Spandau at 12:12.
In the following minutes, neither team scored, and it appeared that the match might go to a penalty shootout. However, Spandau’s Marek Tkac beat the buzzer, scoring with just one second left on the clock. With the Slovak’s last-gasp goal, Spandau advanced to the final with a thrilling 13:12 victory.
