Spain’s head coach, David Martin, has selected a 15-player roster for the World Championships. The roster is largely as expected, with no major surprises or changes.
As previously announced, Felipe Perrone will play his final water polo game in Singapore.
Out of the 15 players selected, 12 competed at the 2024 Olympic Games, with only Martin Famera missing from that lineup.
However, there are more changes compared to the World Cup Super Final held last April, where the Spaniards defended their gold medal. Three experienced aces – Perrone, Roger Tahull and Marc Larumbe – as well as young Biel Gomila, are back on the team. None of them played in Podgorica, and they now replace Blasco, Daura, Asensio, and Valls.
The players who were not part of the last Olympic Games and will travel to Singapore are Javier Bustos, Fran Valera, and Biel Gomila. The latter has the opportunity to win his second world title in a month, having clinched gold at the World U20 Championships in Zagreb just two weeks ago.
Spain’s 2025 World Championships roster
Goalkeepers: Unai Aguirre (Barceloneta), Eduardo Lorrio (Sabadell). Field players: Unai Biel, Alexandros Bustos, Biel Gomila, Alberto Munarriz, Felipe Perrone, Bernat Sanahuja, Roger Tahull (all Barceloneta), Alvaro Granados (Pro Recco) Javier Bustos, Fran Valera (Sabadell), Sergi Cabanas (Jug), Miguel de Toro (Ferencvaros), Marc Larumbe (Marseille).
Spain’s most challenging opponent in the group stage will be Hungary, but the remaining two rivals in Group B are also respectable and can cause trouble for the favorites – Australia and Japan.
