Novi Beograd defeated Radnicki 13:11 in the second game of the final of the Serbian League playoffs, taking revenge for a one-goal defeat in the first match in Kragujevac. So, the battle for the title will end in the third game, scheduled for Wednesday in Kragujevac.
Today’s game was similar to the previous one. It was a hard battle and open until the very end, even though two goals separated the teams this time.
Most of the attacks in the first quarter resulted in goals. Radnicki took a lead three times, and Novi Beograd had a one-goal advantage twice. Still, after the first eight minutes, the sides were tied at 5:5. The game followed a similar pattern in the second period. The big rivals were in a neck-and-neck race. Novi Beograd had a 6:5 and a 7:6 advantage. Midway through the quarter, Valiko Dadvani put Radnicki in front with two quick goals (with a man-up and from a counterattack). But it didn’t take long before Skoumpakis scored for 8:8. This was the final goal of the first half, leaving both teams to start anew after the break.
Four and a half minutes before the last break, Radnicki’s Stanojevic was excluded for a violent foul. During a 4-minute suspension, Novi Beograd scored two goals (Vlachopoulos from a penalty and Vucinic from a 6 on 5) but didn’t concede a single and earned a 2-goal advantage (10:8), which the hosts maintained until the end of the quarter. Early in the fourth period, Dusan Trtovic stretched the margin to three,11:8. Nikola Jaksic then netted two back-to-back goals by the middle of the quarter and Radnicki was back into the game – 10:11. But Novi Beograd replied wth two goals and went to 12:10. Novi Beograd entered the final minute with a 13:11. Everything was decided 30 seconds from the end, when Novi beograd’s goalkeeper, De Michelis, posted a save, ending Radnicki’s hopes of winning the title in Belgrade.
