Olympiacos and Vouliagmeni qualified for the final of the Greek Championships. These two teams have been regular participants in the national championship finals for years. However, unlike previous seasons, Vouliagmeni didn’t enter the playoffs from second place this year. As usual, Olympiacos finished in 1st place in the regular season.
Olympiacos easily beat Apollon in two games in the semifinals. The Red-Whites started slowly in the first match in their pool and let Apollon take a 3:1 lead. However, Olympiacos turned the game and recorded a 13:8 win. The 2nd encounter was completely different. Olympiacos controlled the game from the very beginning. It led 10:5 at halftime. Before the final period, it stood 17:6. Apollon narrowed the deficit in the fourth quarter. Olympiacos secured a spot in the semifinals with a 21:12 win.
The first semifinal encounter between Panathinaikos and Vouliagmeni, which finished in second and third place, respectively, in the regular season, was a nail-biter. Vouliagmeni, the visiting team, beat the hosts 10:9, with Kalogeropoulos scoring a winner two seconds from time. In the second match, Panathinaikos had a 6:4 advantage late into the third quarter. However, Vouliagmeni improved its defense and dominated the last nine minutes to achieve a 10:7 victory.
Olympiacos will have a home-field advantage in the first match of the best-of-five series in the final.
