Vouliagmeni and Olympiacos recorded wins in the first matches of the semifinals of the Greek Championship.
Vouliagmeni, the first-ranked team in the regular season, cruised to a win over Peristeri (14:4). Olympiacos defeated Apollon Smyrnis after a tremendous battle (12:11).

Vouliagmeni rushed to a 9:0 lead in the first half of the clash with Peristeri, and after that, slowed down and saved energy for new matches.
An encounter between Olympiacos and Apollon offered a lot of excitement. Olympiacos, led by Konstantinos Genidounias, had a 3-goal advantage at halftime (8:5). Genidounias scored six goals in the first half and added one in the third period.
Apollon started coming back after the middle break. The visitors’ power engine was Emmanouil Solanakis. He scored three straight goals in the first five minutes of the third quarter and Apollon caught up with Olympiacos (8:8). Genidounias ended the hosts’ scoreless phase with a goal for 9:8. Solanakis equalized again (9:9), but Dervisis gave Olympiacos a 10:9 lead before the last break.
Chrysospathis opened the fourth period with a goal for 11:9. However, Apollon responded with two quick goals within 39 seconds (Moskov and Dermitzakis), and the sides were tied again with 6 minutes and 6 seconds remaining on the clock.
But, in the next possession, Olympiacos’ captain Konstantinos Mourikis scored for 12:11. After that, there were no goals. Apollo had a great chance to equalize from a penalty shot 37 seconds before the final buzzer. But, Gounas’ shot was blocked by Zerdevas, and Olympiacos achieved the win.
