Olympiacos Piraeus is very close to its 34th national title.
The Greek League has been continued this weekend, with the matches of the 19th round. In the first game after a long break, Olympiacos hosted its biggest rival Vouliagmeni. The Piraeus-based team recorded a convincing 12:3 win.
After this victory, Olympiacos has an 8-point advantage ahead of the 2nd-placed Vouliagmeni. Since the playoffs won’t be played, Olympiacos needs just a point in the remaining three rounds to mathematically secure the title.
Olympiacos, the home team in this match, dominated from the beginning of the derby. The hosts earned a 2:0 lead. Vouliagmeni scored its first goal in the middle of the first quarter (2:1). After that, Olympiacos produced a 9:0 series and built an 11:1 advantage. The reigning champion held Vouliagmenigoalless for 24 minutes. In the last four and a half minutes, the visitors scored two goals, while Olympiacos netted one for a 12:3 win.
The best scorer was Gounas with three goals. Genidounias and Morukis scored two each. Besides the three, scorers for Olympiacos were Jokovic, Mathiopoluos, Dervisis, Kakaris, and I. Chalyvopoulos. Two foreigners were in Olympiacos’ team in this match – Maro Jokovic and Stefan Mitrovic. Ivan Buljubasic already left the club, while goalkeeper Stefan Mitrovic, who moves to Noisy-le-Sec, also missed the match. In the next season, Jokovic will play for Brescia and Buljubasic for Trieste. Mitrovic still hasn’t announced where he will continue his career
