Pro Recco defeated Savona 14:8 in the replay of the 2024 Italian Championships final, which took place in Sori today, in the 15th round of Serie A1.
With this victory, the reigning champion continues to compete closely with Brescia, which convincingly beat Telimar. Both teams remain unbeaten and share 1st and 2nd place, with each recording 14 wins. Their previous encounter played two weeks ago, ended in an 8:8 draw. Savona currently sits in 3rd place, seven points behind.
Those who expected an interesting derby, Recco – Savona, were disappointed as Recco left no chance for the visiting team and achieved a convincing 14:8 win. Savona’s Damonte scored an opening goal in the first minute. Recco leveled immediately. There were no goals for a while. In the 6th minute, Younger gave Recco a first lead. Savona equalized at 2:2. But in the following seven minutes, Recco kept Savona goalless while scoring four goals and jumped to 6:2. Savona reduced the gap by halftime (4:7).
The hosts scored four unanswered goals in the third quarter. At the beginning of the fourth, Condemi added one more to make it 12:4, and the contest was over. Francesco Condemi scored three goals for Pro Recco, while Cannella, Younger, Fondelli, and Iocchi Gratta contributed two goals each. Merkulov, Guidi and Damonte scored two for the visitors.
Brescia earned three points in Palermo with a huge 12:5 win, even though Telimar kept up with the favorites in the first half. Brescia had a slim 5:4 advantage. However, the visitors ruled the field in the third quarter, scoring six goals in a row and entered the final period with a comfortable 11:4 lead. Five players found the net two times – Brescia’s Guerrato, Baltarini, Gianayya, Ferrero and Telimar’s Gilberti.
Trieste, led by Mladosich and Draskovic (who scored four goals each), surpassed Olympic Roma 13:9.
Roma Vis Nova, which holds 5th place, with one point fewer than Trieste, defeated Florentia 12:6.
Posillipo beat Catania 15:5 with six goals from Marko Radulovic. He arrived at Posillipo last summer but debuted in Serie A1 only two weeks ago because of an administrative error made by the Naples-based club (late registration).
