Croatian champion Jadran Split hasn’t confirmed any of the new signings yet. The first newcomer could be Dusan Matkovic, a member of the Montenegrin national team, while it’s almost certain that three players will leave the club.
Matkovic (26) started playing for Primorac. In 2022, he moved to Barceloneta. He won a Champions League bronze medal with the Spanish club, but after one season, he joined Noisy-le-Sec (France). Since the Parisians drastically cut the budget and withdrew from the French Elite League, almost all players, including Matkovic, left the club last summer. Matkovic returned to Primorac. He has played for Montenegro since 2019.
Departures
Regarding departures from Jadran, as we already reported, Matkovic’s fellow countryman, Dusan Banicevic, has left Split to join Panathinaikos in Greece.
The club didn’t extend the contracts of two experienced Croatian players, Marino Cagalj (31) and left-handed Ivan Domagoj Zovic (28), so they are now free agents. Both were born in Split. However, they didn’t start their careers at Jadran but at Mornar.
After leaving Mornar, Cagalj played for Mladost, Jadran Herceg Novi, and Spandau 04 before joining Jadran in the 2021/22 season.
Like Cagalj, Zovic was a member of Mladost Zagreb for a few seasons. Between 2018 and 2021, he was on Jadran Split’s roster. After a one-year experience in the Spanish League (CNA Barceloneta), Zovic returned to Jadran Split.
Both have represented Croatia at junior and senior competitions. A number of Italian and Spanish clubs have expressed interest in signing them, but they’re still exploring their alternatives.
