A small number of South American players in top European clubs is expected to increase in the upcoming season.
One key player on Brazil's national team, Rafael Real Vergara, is close to signing a contract with Sabadell.
A few months ago, Vergara won the Brazilian National Championships playing for Esporte Clube Pinheiros (Sao Paulo).
If he joins Sabadell, it won’t be his first experience playing in Europe. At the age of 16, he first moved to Spain and played for junior teams in Barceloneta and Sabadell. Four years ago, he was a member of the seven-time European champion, Partizan.
Vergara also studied in the USA and played for two clubs in the NCAA League. In 2023, he was named the best player of the MPSF Conference while playing for UCLA. Previously, he excelled on the Long Beach State water polo team.
Vergara has won several medals at the Pan American and South American Games and Championships, representing Brazil in both senior and junior categories.
