Sabadell has become the second finalist in the Spanish League playoffs. Sabadell defeated Barcelona 11:8 in the third match of the semifinals, joining Barceloneta, which secured its spot in the gold medal match after winning two games against Terrassa.
This marks the third consecutive year that Sabadell and Barceloneta will clash for the national title. Barceloneta, aiming for a 20th consecutive championship, stands as the favorite, while Sabadell hopes to claim the trophy for the first time in the club’s history.
Sabadell started very well in the third match, building an early 3-goal lead (3:0, 4:1, 5:2). However, Barcelona improved its performance in the middle of the game and went ahead in the 21st minute—7:6. Sabadell regained control, going on a 3:0 run to lead 9:7 early in the fourth quarter. Barcelona was unable to equalize for the remainder of the match. Francisco Valera contributed four goals to Sabadell’s 11:8 win, while Alberto Barroso and Kanstantin Averka added three each. As for Barcelona, Villamayor, Andrade, and Van der Weijden scored two.
The series of final matches will begin on Sunday at Barceloneta’s pool. The team that wins two games will take the crown.
