After beating Honved last week, Szolnok recorded a win in another derby in the Hungarian League.
Szolnok defeated OSC in Budapest in a game ending in a penalty shootout – 13:11 (10:10). This result widened the gap between 2nd-placed Szolnok and 3rd-placed OSC to three points.
Szolnok had a 4-goal advantage in the middle of the game, but OSC caught up with the in the dying seconds – 10:10 and forced a shootout.
Szolnok got off to a good start in the derby and led 2:0 and 3:1 in the first quarter. The hosts leveled at 3:3 in the 5th minute. But, shortly after, Szolnok retook control. The visitors scored four goals between the 6th and 18th minutes, conceding only one. Szolnok led 8:4 and 9:5 in the third quarter. Still, OSC was able to come back. The hosts scored three unanswered goals . Baksa Benedek converted a man-up for 8:9 in the 27th minute. However, Szolnok’s Norman Schmolcz replied immediately. Still, Szolnok couldn’t maintain the advantage. OSC scored the last two goals in the match. The Dutch Lars ten Broek made it 10:10 with 25 seconds left on the clock.
Ten Broek was OSC’s only player who found the net in the shootout. Szolnok’s goalkeeper, Mark Banyai, saved two shots, which, combined with a miss from an OSC player and three penalty goals at the other end of the pool, allowed Szolnok to secure a 13:11 victory.
Baksa Benedek (OSC) and Gergo Kovacs (Szolnok) were the top scorers, each scoring four goals.
Ferencvaros demolished Szentes 21:8 to add its 29th consecutive win in all competitions since the beginning of the season. Gergo Fekete scored five goals for the European champions. Soma Vogel, Dusan Mandic, and Krisztian Manhercz missed the match.
Eger earned an away win over PVSK 12:11 thanks primarily to Salamon, who scored five goals. Kaposvar was better than Debrecen 14:12, while UVSE easily beat Miskolc 16:9.
Update, February 9: BVSC outplayed Honved 16:7 in the last match of the weekend. BVSC’s David Tatrai and Akos Konarik combined more goals than the entire Honved team. Each found the net four times.
