The three best Spanish clubs – Barceloneta, Sabadell, and Barcelona – had good domestic rehearsals before their following challenges on the European stage. They all recorded wins in the 15th round of the Spanish League.
Barceloneta, unbeaten in all competitions this season, showed no mercy to Tenerife in its last match before the big Champions League game against Ferencvaros (in Budapest on Wednesday). Barceloneta reached a 20-goal margin in demolishing Tenerife 26:6. Alvaro Granados and Vince Vigvari were unstoppable, each netting five goals.
Sabadell faced a demanding challenge in an away game against 5th-placed Mataro. At halftime, the hosts led 3:2. However, Sabadell took control in the third period and turned around a one-goal deficit to a solid 7:4 lead. In the final eight minutes, the visitors stretched the margin to four (11:7). Francisco Valera scored three for Sabadell.
The namesakes, Pol Prat and Pol Daura, were Barcelona’s leaders in a convincing 18:7 win over Catalunya.
The encounter between Sant Andreu and Real Canoe remained open until the very end. Real Canoe, currently in 12th place in the table, built a 3-goal advantage in the first half (6:3, 7:4). However, the Madrid-based team wasn’t able to surprise. Sant Andreu was coming back step-by-step, with Aleix Herrero scoring a winner with 53 seconds left in the game – 10:9.
