ZV De Zaan wins Dutch Super Cup

An action-packed weekend is behind the clubs of the Dutch men’s league. A regular league round was held on Saturday. A day after, national champion Het Ravijn and ZV De Zaan, the winner of the Cup of the Netherlands, faced off in the match for the Super Cup.

ZV De Zaan won the Super Cup beating Het Ravijn by six goals (13:7)

Dutch Men’s Super Cup

Het Ravijn – ZV De Zaan 7:13 (3:1, 1:3, 2:5, 1:4)
Het Ravijn: Gottemaker 2, Muller 2, Ter Brake 2, Loos 1.
ZV De Zaan: Mandolini 3, Meijn 3, Janssen 3, Brantjes 1, Bakker 1, Corver 1, Lucas 1.

The clubs had different overtures before the Super Cup. Het Ravijn lost its league match on Saturday (8:9 to AZC), while ZV De Zaan had an easy task against De Hamm (17:9).

Her Ravijn, the host of the Super Cup, opened the match well. It took a 2:0 lead, and had a 3:1 advantage at the first break. But ZV De Zaan dominated the second half, scoring three goals in a row to went ahead (4:3). Still, the sides were tied at 4:4 at halftime.

The national champion took a 5:4 lead after the 3-minute break. However, ZV De Zaan built a nice 9:6 advantage before the last quarter. The visitors didn’t stop and doubled the difference to 13:7 by the end of the game.

Het Ravijn, the reigning champion, hasn’t found its rhythm yet. It has only three points after five league games. The title-holder had a demanding task in the 5th round as it faced a very good team of AZC, which made a crucial difference in the first eight minutes (4:1). The home team dictated the pace. It led 9:5 at the beginning of the fourth period. Het Ravijn started coming back and reduced the gap to one goal (8:9) with one minute left on the clock, but it didn’t equalize.

The other derby of the day was an encounter between Polar Bears and UZSC. Polar Bears won the first quarter – 5:1, which set the tone of the match. By the middle break, Bears stretched the margin to five (9:4). UZSC played better in the second half, but couldn’t endanger Bears’ advantage. The hosts celebrated a 15:12 victory.

ZV De Zaan continued its unbeaten run. It has played three matches so far, and has collected nine points. ZV De Zaan left no chance to De Ham. At the middle break, De Zaan was 11:5 up. After that, only a winning margin was in question. In the end, De Zaan recorded a 17:9 victory.

ZVL-1886 Center bettered PSV (15:11). The third period, in which ZVL-1886 scored eight and conceded three goals was crucial for the outcome.
