The sides were tied (9:9) a minute and a half before the last break. The Serbs netted three goals in a row by the middle of the fourth period to earn a 12:9 lead, which proved vital in their win.

Host Greece finished the group stage with a huge victory over bottom-placed Romania.

2 Serbia 3 – 6
3 France 3 – 3
4 Romania 3 – 0

As it was expected after yesterday’s draw in the match Italy-Hungary (7:7), a goal difference determined the group winner.

In the first match of the day in this group, Hungary kept the Czech Republic scoreless for all 32 minutes and recorded a 21:0 victory.

After that encounter, Italy faced Israel. The Italians needed a 9-goal win to return into the 1st place in the group. They built a necessary gap in the middle of the third quarter when they went 15:4 up. Until the end, they extended the margin of their win to 13 (20:7) to earn a spot in the quarterfinals.

2 Hungary 3 – 7 (+29)

Bulgaria: Panovska 1, Dimitrova 1, Kyumurdzhieva 1, Dimitrova 1.

The Netherlands and Germany battled for the 1st place in the group. The Dutch, which were big favourites, quickly dashed the Germans’ hopes of winning the 1st place. The Netherlands gained a 4:0 lead in the first quarter. Germany cut the deficit early in the second quarter (5:2), but in the second half of the match, the Germans didn’t score a single goal, while the Netherlands cruised to an easy 16:2 win.

Great Britain convincingly beat Bulgaria 15:4 and qualified for the crossover round.

1 Netherlands 3 – 9
2 Germany 3 – 6
3 Great Britain 3 – 3
4 Bulgaria 3 – 0

Group D

Russia – Slovakia 28:5 (7:0, 7:3, 8:1, 6:1)
