Vasas Defeats The Group Leader, Ferencvaros Struggles against Miskolc – Hungarian Water Polo

Szolnoki, OSC, and Eger confirmed their dominance in the Upper Stage, while Vasas climbs the scales in the Lower Stage. The third round is concealed.

Lower Stage

Tatabanya continued their good streak, this time winning against AVUS with 8:10. The guest team got a score of 6:2 before the big break, leaving AVUS with a big disadvantage they failed to overcome by the end of the game. Barabás Botond had the highlight play with 65% defense efficiency.

Great defenses also occured on Vasas‘ side of the pool, where they got a 9:5 win against PVSK. On the other side, Szentesi were briliant in the attack section as they crushed Kaposvari with five score difference (13:8).

Upper Stage

Szolnoki played a dominating match against the last-placed Racionet. By the end of the first half-time, Szolnoki, led by Szatmári and Plainović, secured their win with an eight goal-difference. In the second, Racionet somewhat came back to their senses, but Szolnoki pressed even harder against their defenses, finishing the match with 17:6. Kristóf Szatmári was the greatest shooter with four goals, accompanying Gergely Kardos who had 63% defense efficiency.

Once again, OSC proved they were worthy of sharing the first place with Szolnoki. Lajos Vad’s boys faithfully preserved the winning streak, downing BVSC with 3:12.

Like Szolnoki and OSC, Eger pulled an easy victory, though Debreceni showed more of a resistance than the previous teams. Angelos Vlachopoulos dominated the pool with four scores. Slowly but surely, Eger proves its worth as they rise toward the two leading teams in the Upper Stage.

From the middle of the standings, Miskolci challenged the great Ferencvaros, almost wining the match. One of the tensest matches of the midseason’s third round got Miskolci tracking the score and parrying all the attacks the Champion had to offer. All until the third quarter, they held their position, but finally, Ferencvaros pressed hard, scoring four goals in the third quarter. József Sike’s team didn’t give up as they actually won the last quarter, but they were a goal short. Another opportunity will have to present itself for them to try beating the Champion again.
