The first leg of the LEN Euro Cup quarterfinals was played today. The winner of the day was Brescia, which trashed MVLC Miskolc – 17:10. One match ended in a draw (Ortigia – Vouliagmeni 9:9), Oradea defeated Mataro (12:9), while Eger beat Strasbourg (12:8).

Brescia earned a big advantage before the return leg in Miskolc. The Italians dominated from the beginning. Deep into the second period, they already had a 7:2 lead, while they built a 9-goal advantage in the midway through the 3rd period. After that, only the margin of their win was in question.

The quarterfinal day was opened by an encounter between Ortigia and Vouliagmeni, played in Syracuse. Though Vouliagmeni led for most of the time and entered the last quarter with a 2-goal lead, the Italians managed to equalise in the finish and to keep their hopes alive. Before the fourth period, Vouliagmeni was leading 8:6, while Ortigia levelled the score (8:8) with 03:31 remaining on the clock. Basic hit the back of the net for Vouliagmeni’s new advantage (9:8), but Giacoppo scored an equaliser 32 seconds from the end – 9:9.
CSM Oradea – Mataro 12:9 (2:3, 2:2, 5:1, 3:3)

Oradea earned a nice 3-goal advantage before the return leg in Mataro. The Romanians broke the rival during the 3rd period. At halftime, Mataro was a step ahead of the Romanians (5:4). Oradea opened the second half with 4 straight goals and went 8:5 up deep into the third period and kept the distance until the last buzzer – 12:9.
Eger – Strasbourg 12:8 (3:1, 2:4, 4:3, 3:0)
ZF Eger: S. Rasovic 4, Murisic 3, Hosnyanszky 3, Czacsovszky 2.
Team Strasbourg: Markovic 4, Cesca 1, Babic 1, Begovic 1, Bratic 1.
Team Strasbourg kept with the favourites for three quarters, but the French ran out of has for the last period and Eger, led by Strahinja Rasovic, recorded a 3-goal win.
