[ASIAN GAMES 2018] Men's Tournament, Day 1 — Japan Crushes China on First Day

After the Women’s tournament which ended a couple of days ago, men gathered to compete for the Asian Games Water Polo Trophy. Nine teams, two groups and four more days are ahead of us.

Men’s tournament will be held from 25th to 29th of August. With today as an exception, each day will have three matches to offer. The groups are:

A: Iran, Kazakhstan, Republic of Korea, Singapore

B: Japan, Indonesia, Saudi Arabia, China, Hong Kong

As for the women’s tournament, China strolled through the competition flawlessly with no losses. The men’s team, though, got crushed by Japan on the first day of the tournament. Saudi Arabia and Indonesia played a draw (12:12).

In Group A, Kazakhstan dominated over Korea, and Iran had a clear victory against Singapore.

Aleksandar Ciric, Iran coach, commented:

We thought that the opening game, like today, would be hard, but finally, we could get a good result. We had prepared to participate in this Asian Games for three years by participating in a number of competitions before coming here. And the Asian Games were absolutely our target.
