Barcelona ends Barceloneta’s winning streak

Two derbies were the highlights of the 12th round of the Spanish League. There were no winners in both games.

Barceloneta and Barcelona shared the points in a low-scoring encounter – 6:6. Barcelona ended Barceloneta’s winning streak. The reigning champion recorded 11 wins in the previous 11 games in the national league.

A 22-goal thriller between Sabadell and Terrassa, also, ended in a draw (11:11).

Group C (places 1st – 6th)

Barceloneta – Barcelona 6:6 (2:1, 1:2, 2:0, 1:3)

Just a week ago, Barceloneta trashed Barcelona (9:3) in the final match of the Spanish Cup. Today, Barceloneta opened the big Catalan derby very well and it seemed that it would down the rival once more. In the middle of the first period, Barceloneta led 2:0. Still, Barcelona equalized early in the second, while Felipe Perrone put the hosts in front from a penalty in the 12th minute. Still, the visiting team equalized by the end of the 1st half.

Barceloneta regained a 2-goal lead in the third period (5:3). Four and a half minutes before the end, the distance was still two goals (6:4), but Barcelona netted two goals in 82 seconds and caught up with the rival – 6:6 (29th minute). Nobody could find the net in the last three minutes.

The second big encounter of the day, between Sabadell and Terrassa was even more exciting. Terrassa stunned Sabadell with a 3:0 lead, but the hosts were able to come back. At halftime, it stood 5:5, while Sabadell’s Nemanja Ubovic opened the third period, by converting a man-up for 6:5.

From that point on, the contest was an exchange of goals. Sabadell, led by Bernat Sanahuja was earning a 1-goal lead, but Terrassa was equalizing shortly after each of the hosts’ goals. Terrassa’s Oscar Carillo closed the match 32 seconds before the end when he found the net for the final score – 11:11.

The third match in the Championship group was also very exciting. Sant Andreu edged out Mediterrani 12:11. Mediterrani earned a 7:5 lead in the 16th minute, and for the first and the last time, two goals separated the rivals. But, Sant Andreu responded with three goals in a row and went in front – 8:7. The rivals fought a hard battle until the end. Before the last minute, the score was 11:11. Sant Andreu’s Victor Cabanas scored a winner with just 16 seconds to go.
