Both Groups Battle in The Middle-Ranks – Hungarian Water Polo

February 18, 2019

The 13th round saw struggles in the mid-standings, along with an unexpected draw in Group A.

Group A

Avus played KSI, gloriously outplaying them with an initial 8:0 lead. Márk Mszjsz’s team managed to score for 9:1, but by then it was too late and Avus carried the victory.

Throughout the second match, Ferencvarosi kept a decent advantage over Racionet. After the second quarter, they pressed harder, scoring a big lead which resulted in the final score of 13:4.

Eger and BVSC played the tensest match of the group. The ball was equally thrown over both sides of the pool as the score changed, ultimately ending with the draw of 11:11. Hosnyánszky excelled on Eger’s side with four goals and Pásztor with four on BVSC’s side.

Szentesi won against PVSK with 8:7, equalizing their points in standings (16-16).

Group B

Máté Bóbis had a debut with Vasas, though it didn’t go as good as expected. On his first match as a coach, the 32-year-old lost to Tatabanya 10:6.

Miskolci missed their opportunity to push down Szolnoki and climb up to the second place. Both teams started with 30 points, though Szolnoki proved better, getting to the second place with 11:8. It might have looked promising on the halftime when the teams equalized for 4:4, but soon the score was sealed.

Debreceni, who keep on pushing toward the top three, welcomed the leader OSC. Krisztián Manhercz opened the game with a goal and soon Debreceni pressed hard against OSC’s goal. In the first and second quarter, Debreceni created a fine lead, resulting in 6:4 at the end of the first halftime. After the halftime, OSC came back to steal the lead. Gergő Kovác, Draško Brguljan, and Martin Toth landed a series of goals, taking the lead which OSC kept until the end of the game (11:9).

UVSE, who is also striving for the best four, lost to Kaposvari. The teams played a draw in the first quarter and then UVSE took the lead by one goal. Though Kaposvari came back in an explosive fashion and a series of four goals.
