Pro Recco and Brescia finished atop of their respective groups of the second stage of the Italian Cup.
Pro Recco defeated Ortigia 10:7 in the last match of the group in Savona. An encounter between Brescia and host Telimar decided the group-winner in Palermo. Brescia showed no mercy to the home team and secured the 1st place with a big 16:7 margin.
The Final Four will be played in January (29 – 30). Pairing for the semifinals: Pro Recco – Telimar, Brescia – Ortigia.

Pro Recco was always ahead in the derby match against Ortigia. The Sicilians were coming back from time to time, but they couldn’t equalize. Pro Recco had a slim 3:2 advantage at halftime, and it opened the third quarter with three goals to jump to a 6:2 lead. Recco, which won the previous seven editions of the national cup, extended the distance to five (8:3). Still, Ortigia started coming back once more and cut the deficit in the middle of the final period (7:9). Ortigia water polo players had a few nice opportunities to reduce the gap to one. They even missed a penalty shoot. Dusan Mandic closed the match in the final minute, with his 3rd goal for 10:7.
Savona defeated Roma and finished third.

After five straight wins at the start of the season, Telimar Palermo wasn’t able for a new surprise. Brescia dominated throughout the match and recorded a big victory. The visitors needed less than four minutes to build a 3:0 lead. Telimar reduced the gap quickly after that (2:3). But, Brescia kept the Sicilians scoreless until the middle break, while it scored four goals and entered the second half with a 7:2 advantage. After that, the visitors’ win wasn’t in danger. However, Telimar can be pleased too. The Palermo-based team achieved significant success by reaching the semifinals.
Quinto and Posillipo shared the points. Iren took the 3rd because of the better goal difference
