A few days ago, Brescia successfully finished qualifications for the Champions League. Today, the Italian champion continued its winning streak in the Italian League. Brescia hosted Savona in the big match of the 3rd round. But, the derby game lacked excitement. Brescia ran over Savona – 14:3.
Besides Brescia, Pro Recco and Ortigia keep their perfect records. Each team has collected nine points.

Brescia killed all excitement in the derby quickly. Brescia earned a 3:0 lead in the first five minutes. Savona converted a man-up for 1:3 in the 6th minute. But Brescia dominated in the middle two quarters. The hosts, led by Olympic champion Djordje Lazic and World champion Vincenzo Renzuto Iodice, scored ten goals in a row. In the 21st minute, Brescia had a 13:1 advantage. The visitors netted two quick goals (3:13), but Lazic closed the third period for 14:3. There were no goals in the final eight minutes. The big win in the derby encourages Brescia’s supporters before the start of the Champions League (Brescia will host Ferencvaros on Tuesday). On the other side, Savona had a terrible rehearsal for the quarterfinals of the LEN Euro Cup against Sabadell.
Pro Recco wasn’t so convincing as Brescia was, but the European champion recorded an easy win over Catania. Recco led 4:1 at halftime. By the middle of the third period, the hosts stretched the margin to five (6:1) and didn’t waste energy in the remaining time. Recco will open the season in the Champions League in Marseille on Wednesday.
Telimar and Trieste shared the points in a very exciting game in Palermo. Trieste got off to an excellent start. Early in the second period, the visitors had a 4:1 advantage. Andrija Vlahovic, who was Telimar’s power engine today, broke the hosts’ goalless phase in the 14th minute and added another goal in the third period for 3:4. However, Trieste regained a 3-goal advantage in the middle of the quarter (7:4). Telimar responded with a 3:0 series and, finally, equalized in the 28th minute (7:7). Mislav Vrlic gave Trieste a new lead, but Andrija Basic found the net with a man-up for the final score a minute and a half before the end.
Ortigia, which will play in the Euro Cup quarterfinals, as Savona and Telimar, played excellently in defense in the clash with Posillipo. The Sicilians jumped to a 5:0 lead before Posillipo scored its first goal. Still, the Naples-based side wasn’t able to come back. Ortigia cruised to a 9:3 victory.
An encounter between Lazio and Anzio was very thrilling, too. Before the final period, the sides were tied at 6:6. In the 26th minute, Anzio went in front (7:6), but the hosts replied with two goals and earned an 8:7 lead. A minute and a half before the final buzzer, the visitors leveled at 8:8. However, the drama wasn’t over yet. Vitale, the man of the match, gave the hosts a 9:8 advantage 40 seconds from time. However, Anzio’s Lapenna found the net in the next possession, and the game ended with no winner.
Salerno controlled the match against Metanopoli and recorded the second win in the season. The visitors from Milan are still with no points.
