European champion Ferencvaros suffered its third loss on the domestic stage this season.
This evening, BVSC upset “Fradi” and celebrated a narrow 11:10 win in the match of the 20th round of the Hungarian League.
This result is a surprise, but BVSC had earlier proved that it belongs to the circle of the best Hungarian clubs. Don’t forget, BVSC won a point against Szolnok (8:8) in January. Three weeks ago, in the 19th round, BVSC was very close to a new surprise, but it was defeated by OSC 8:9.

Ferencvaros, which played without Denes Varga, Marton Vamos, is preparing for the second “bubble” tournament of the Champions League, which will be held next week. Today’s defeat is a really bad prelude for the European challenges.
Ferencvaros started very well and took an early 2:0 lead. BVSC was coming back. However, the title-holder regained a 2-goal lead (5:3) in the middle of the second period. After that, BVSC kept the visitors scoreless for almost eight minutes and scored three consecutive goals to turn around a 2-goal deficit to a 6:5 advantage (20th minute). Ferencvaros leveled the score (6:6), but BVSC built a 2-goal lead (9:7) by the end of the third period.
Ferencvaros opened the final quarter with two goals and caught up with the rival – 9:9. But, BVSC responded in the same manner, with two goals. Matyas Pasztor converted a man-up for 11:9 with 03:08 minutes to go.
Ferencvaros was trying to come back, but it only managed to reduce the gap in the 31st minute. In the remaining time, the hosts kept the slim lead and three points. They celebrated the great win, while Ferencvaros left the pool empty-handed for the third time this season. The reigning champion was defeated by Szolnok (14:15) late in November and to OSC (12:16) two weeks later.
On Wednesday, the league-leader Szolnok trashed Szentes in its final rehearsal for the LEN Euro Cup eighth-finals. Now, Szolnok is seven points ahead of Ferencvaros, which remains in 3rd place.
