The situation with coronavirus in Hungarian water polo is getting better. Four games that were initially scheduled for the first half of September, but had to be postponed, were played today.
Miskolc and Kaposvar played their first games after a long break. Both teams had challenging tasks today and suffered losses with big margins. Miskolc was defeated by Szolnok (4:19), Ferencvaros convincingly beat Kaposvar (17:8).
BVSC earned a valuable away win in Eger – 11:6.

BVSC was ahead throughout the match against Eger. The hosts managed to equalize just once (1:1 in the first minute). The visitors from Budapest controlled the match. They built a 3-goal lead already in the second quarter (6:3, 7:4). BVSC increased the distance to four goals (8:4) after Csaba Meszaros converted a man-up in the first minute of the third period. Baksa Benedek netted for 5:8 and that goal gave Eger hope. But, by the end of the quarter, BVSC went 10:5 up and there was no way back for the home side. This was Eger’s second consecutive home loss, after a defeat in the game against Vasas on Saturday (6:8).
Miskolc returned to the competitions after almost a month and a half and a 9:10 loss to PVSK (on September 2). The team was quarantined and, obviously, a long pause left its mark on Miskolc players’ shape. Szolnok was too strong. The former Hungarian and European champion cruised to a win. Miskolc its first goal scored 112 seconds before the middle break for 1:7. In the last period, Miskolc scored three goals, but Szolnok controlled everything.
Kaposvar did not play a single match from September 2 to October 14, as well as Miskolc. Today, Kaposvar hosted European champion Ferencvaros. An opening 5:0 rush put the visitors on the right track. Kaposvar got on the scoreboard in the 10th minute (1:5), and even managed to cut the deficit deep into the second quarter (3:6). But, Ferencvaros, led by Ioannis Fountoulis, responded with a new series of five consecutive goals. Ferencvaros led 11:3 in the 20th minute, and everything was decided. „Fradi“ entered the last period with a 13:4 advantage. The final period was balanced with four goals on each side of the pool.
OSC recovered from a 7:10 loss to Szolnok in the derby of the 9th round, played on Saturday, and recorded a convincing win over KSI. The hosts didn’t slow down until the last buzzer.
