European champion Ferencvaros didn’t have a successful rehearsal for the start in the Champions League.

OSC defeated Ferencvaros 16:12 in the derby of the 15th round of the Hungarian League. OSC stunned the hosts in the opening minutes, and Ferencvaros couldn’t find a way back after that.

2020/21 Hungarian League, Day 15

Ferencvaros–OSC 12:16 (2:5, 2:2, 4:6, 4:3)

Ferencvaros: Ven. Vigvari 3, Zalanki 2, Vamos 2, Jaksic 2, D. Varga 1, Constantin-Bicari 1, Fountoulis 1.
OSC: Harai 4, Salamon 3, Manhercz 2, M. Toth 2, Erdelyi 2, Burian 1, Bundschuh 1, Csacsovszky 1.

Both coaches could count on their best players. Only OSC’s Kristztof Toth missed the match.
After just nine seconds of play, Ferencvaros earned a man-up, and Gergo Zalanki converted an extra man to a 1:0 lead. But, OSC answered with three goals. In the 5th minute, the hosts reduced the deficit (2:3). And then came the crucial period of the game. The visitors shut out Ferencvaros for almost eight minutes while they produced a 4:0 series and jumped to a huge 7:2 lead early in the second quarter. Denes Varga broke Ferencvaros’ silence in the 12th minute for 3:7. Jaksic added one goal shortly before the middle break for 4:7 and Ferencvaros’ hopes grew up. The reigning champion came very close in the 18th minute (Vigvari for 5:7). Ferenc Salamon ended OSC’s goalless phase that lasted 8:19 minutes, and the visitors built a new 3-goal lead (8:5). Ferencvaros was coming back from time to time in the action-packed third period. In the middle of this period, “Fradi” trailed 7:9. But, OSC, led by Balazs Harai, found its rhythm again and entered the last quarter with a five-goal advantage (13:8).

OSC knocked down Ferencvaros in the opening minutes of the final quarter, with two goals for a big 15:8 lead. It was clear that the hosts will leave the pool empty-handed.

This was Ferencvaros’ second consecutive loss, after a narrow defeat to Ferencvaros (14:15) two weeks ago. On Tuesday, Ferencvaros starts its campaign in the Champions League.
