Twenty days ago, a total of 101 were scored on Day 2 of Champions League Group B. This evening, that record has been broken. There were 107 goals in today’s four matches of Group B. Visiting teams collected points in all four games.

Marseille upset OSC in Budapest (13:10). Pro Recco defeated Hannover in the match which was 34 goals (21:13). Mladost beat Terrassa in Spain (14:11), while Ferencvaros downed Dinamo in Tbilisi (15:10).

Champions League 2019/20, Main Round, Day 4

Group B

OSC – Marseille 10:13 (5:4, 3:4, 1:2, 1:3)

OSC Budapest: Manhercz 2, Kovacs 2, Harai 2, Randjelovic 1, Prlainovic 1, Erdelyi 1, Ubovic 1..
CN Marseille: Djurdjic 4, Vukicevic 2, Camarasa 2, Izdinsky 2, Vanpeperstraete 1, Crousillat 1, Kovacevic 1.

OSC, which collected all 9 points in the first three rounds, was the favourite, but the French proved that they have been improving their play from match to match. Last weekend, they played very well but lost to Ferencvaros by just three goals in the LEN Super Cup (11:14). Today, they beat the runner-up in the 2018/19 Hungarian Championship

Today’s match was a hard battle from the beginning. I the first two quarters, the distance between the sides was never larger than a goal. OSC was leading for most of the time. Marseille earned its first advantage in the 13th minute (7:6). The visitors had 8:7, but five seconds before the middle break Harai scored from an extra to level the score 8:8.

Marseille took control in the second quarter. The French were 10:8 up in the 3rd minute of the third period. OSC cut the deficit before the last break (9:10), but the French opened the fourth period with three goals in a row and they built a 13:9 advantage three and a half minutes before the final buzzer. The hosts managed just to score a consolation goal and Marseille celebrated a 13:10 win. Bogdan Djurdjic , with 4 goals, was the man of the match.

Terrassa – Mladost 11:14 (3:3, 2:4, 4:6, 2:1)

CN Terrassa:Sanahuja 3, Barroso 2, Gutierrez 2, Mora 1, Alarcon 1, Sanchez 1, Pericas 1.
HAVK Mladost Zagreb: Vrlic 3, Radu 2, Milos 2, Lazic 2, Bowen 2, Cuk 1, Bukic 1, Kharkov 1.

Mladost broke Terrassa in the middle of the game. The hosts were leading during the 1st quarter (1:0, 2:1, 3:2). Mladost equalised 20 seconds before the 1st break (3:3), while the Croats continued their series with three goals in the second period and gained a 6:3 lead in the 11th minute. At halftime, the gap between the sides was two goals (7:5). Mladost doubled an advantage during the third period, which saw 10 goals and entered the last period leading 13:9. Early in the fourth, the Croats went 14:9 up and Terrassa couldn’t come back.

Hannover – Pro Recco 13:21 (3:5, 4:2, 1:7, 5:7)

Hannover: Radovic 4, Da. Brguljan 3, Muslim 2, Schuetze 1, Real 1, Corusic 1, Preuss 1.
Pro Recco: Kayes 4, Velotto 4, Luongo 3, Filipovic 2, Mandic 2, Di Fulvio 2,Di Somma 2, Dobud 1, Ivovic 1.

Today’s encounter between Hannover and Pro Recco was similar to the previous clash these two teams, that was played in the same pool a few months ago. In June, Pro Recco also had to overcome some struggles in defeating Hannover in the quarterfinals of the Final Eight (14:10, after 6:5 at halftime).

Hannover again kept with the Italians for two quarters. Pro Recco was leading for most of the time. Early in the second quarter, the Italians were three steps ahead of the Germans (6:3), but the teams were tied at halftime (7:7). The third quarter was decisive for the outcome. Pro Recco scored six unanswered goals in the first six minutes of the second half (!) and jumped to a 13:6 lead. The visitors maintained the distance by the last break (14:7). Twelve goals were seen in the last quarter, but Pro Recco controlled everything. The Italians even had a 10-goal advantage (21:11), but they let Hannover reduce the gap in the last few minutes (21:13).

Dinamo T – Ferencvaros 10:15 (0:5, 5:5, 3:3, 2:2)

Dinamo Tbilisi:Shushiashvili 3, Jelaca 2, Bitadze 2, Rurua 1, Magrakvelidze 1, Vapenski 1.
Ferencvaros Telekom:Zalnaki 3, Fountoulis 3, Jaksic 2, Vamos 2, Sedlmayer 2, Kallay 1, Constantin-Bicari 1, Jansik 1.

A week after a win in the Super Cup match against Marseille (14:11), Ferencvaros continued its unbeaten run in the Champions League. Today, the titleholder played without two important players. Captain Denes Varga and centre-forward Tamas Mezei didn’t travel to Tbilisi, they stayed in Budapest to rest after a series of hard matches.

The Hungarians opened the match with a 5:0 lead which determined the rest of the encounter. The visitors had an 8:1 advantage in the middle of the second period and they slowed down after that. Dinamo fought hard, but the Hungarians’ win was never in danger.

1 Ferencvaros (HUN) 4 – 12
2 Pro Recco (ITA) 4 – 10
3 OSC Budapest (HUN) 4 – 9
4 Mladost (CRO) 4 – 7
