Pro Recco officially presented its first reinforcement for the next season.

Today, the European champion announced that Gergo Zalanki, a left-handed goal-getter of the Hungarian national team had signed a contract with Pro Recco. He will replace Dusan Mandic, who moved to Novi Beograd.

Zalanki (26) arrives from Ferencvaros, where he played in the last two seasons and won the 2019 Champions League and the LEN Super Cup with the Budapest-based team. Before Ferencvaros, he played for Eger, OSC and Szolnok. Representing Hungary, Zalanki won gold medals at the 2020 European Championship and the 2018 FINA World Cup, and silver medals at the 2017 World Championships and in the 2018 World League.

Pro Recco is the most famous club. Every water polo player dreams of wearing the cap of this team. I want to win everything with Pro Recco. I know that this is the only thing that matters for those who play here “, Zalanki said after signing.

Many Hungarians played for Pro Recco in the past, among them were Tibor Benedek, Tamas Kasas, Tamas Marcz (who is currently Hungary’s coach), Norbert Madaras, etc. Madaras left Pro Recco in 2014. Since then until Zalanki’s arrival, there were no Hungarians in Recco.

“I grew up watching these players. They are fantastic players and great idols. I talked to some of them: they told me it wouldn’t be easy, but it was worth it because that’s the only way I could be among the best. Also, Aaron Younger, with whom I played at Ferencvaros, always encouraged me to take this step and spoke very highly of Recco and the environment. I thank him from my heart. My idols as a child? Benedek and Madaras: they are great icons in my country. I worked with both of them.”

Besides Zalanki, several great players will arrive at Recco, but the confirmation is still missing. It’s sure that a new goalkeeper will be Marco Del Lungo (Brescia). It’s most likely that Croatia’s center-forward Luka Loncar will leave Jug and come to Pro Recco.

Recco is still looking for a new head coach after Gabriel Hernandez decided to leave the club.

Mourkis and Genidounias renew contracts with Olympiacos

Today, Olympiacos announced that it had renewed contracts with its captain Konstantinos Mourikis and the best scorer Konstantinos Genidounias. The experienced center-forward Mourikis signed a new three-year contract with the club which will be one of the main contenders for the trophy in the Champions League next season. Genidounias also signed a three-year contract.

We already published that Filip Filipovic, Andro Buslje, Marko Bijac, Ioannis Fountoulis, and Djuro Radovic moved to Olympiacos. In the last few days, the Piraeus-based club has confirmed that two Greek players had arrived at Olympiacos. Centre-forward of the Greek national team Christodoulos Kolomvos returned to Olympiacos from Enka (Turkey). Konstantinos Gouvis left Vouliagmeni and became part of the team of Olympiacos.

Two legendary goalkeepers join Novi Beograd

Novi Beograd has brought several excellent players this summer. Besides, the club strengthened its management and coaching staff with Serbian water polo legends. Two former goalkeepers of the national team of Serbia and Yugoslavia joined the club.

Denis Sefik, who retired a few years ago, will become a member of the General Board of Novi Beograd and his duties will be the work with the club’s sports sector.

Slobodan Soro, who finished his career after the end of this season will become the club’s sports manager. Soro played for Vojvodina, Partizan, Becej, Jadran HN, Dynamo Moscow, Savona, etc. He was Lazio’s goalkeeper in the past two seasons.

Both won many medals with the national teams, and trophies in clubs’ competitions. Soro won the LEN Champions League twice (with Becej in 2000 and with Partizan in 2011), Sefik clinched Champions League playing for Crvena Zvezda in 2013.
