Hungary defeated Japan convincingly (21:10), and the Netherlands beat France 12:10 on Day 2 of the Benu Cup on Margaret Island in Budapest.
The second day was opened with an encounter between the teams that suffered losses on Wednesday, France and the Netherlands (France lost to Hungary, and Japan was better than the Dutch)
The French started well; they had a 3-goal lead in the second quarter (3:0, 4:1, 5:2). The Dutch responded with a 4:0 series and gained a 6:5 lead midway through the third period. France regained a lead (7:6, 8:7). The sides were tied at 9:9 before the final eight minutes. In the middle of the fourth period, the Dutch earned a 2-goal lead (11:9) and maintained the difference until the final buzzer.
The persistent Japanese kept up with Hungary in the first quarter. The hosts led 3:0, 4:1 and 6:2. The Asians halved the deficit with two late goals in the first period (4:6). After the first break, the European champions produced a 3:0 run for a 9:4 lead. At halftime, it was 10:5, but Hungary didn’t stop and increased the margin to 11.
On Friday, France will play against Japan, while the Netherlands and Hungary will face off in the last match of the day.
