Ferencvaros, Vasas, OSC and Honved reach Final Four

Ferencvaros, Vasas, OSC and Honved qualified for the Final Four of the Hungarian Cup.

Vasas, Ferencvaros, and OSC recorded wins in both legs of the quarterfinals. Honved lost to Eger in the 2nd match (9:10), but Honved’s victory in an aggregate score wasn’t in danger after a 16:7 triumph in Budapest.

2022/23 Hungarian Cup, Quarterfinals, 2nd leg

Szeged – Vasas 9:13 (3:5, 1:2, 2:4, 3:2) – 1st match 6:13

Ferencvaros, the winner of the previous edition of the Hungarian Cup, had ups and downs in the match against BVSC. The visitors scored the first two goals in the game, but Ferencvaros responded with four and gained a 4:2 lead at halftime. Still, BVSC didn’t let Ferencvaros build a big gap and chased the rival. Early in the third quarter, BVSC leveled at 8:8. However, the hosts built a 4-goal lead before the end of this quarter, Ferencvaros stretched the margin to four for the first time (13:9) and maintained the difference until the end.

Szolnok kept up with OSC in the opening minutes. Early in the second period, the score was 3:3. Before the middle break, OSC earned a 3-goal lead (6:3) which determined the rest of the encounter.

Szeged scored the first goal in the game against Vasas. But, the visitors answered with three (3:1) and were always ahead.

Eger started bravely against Honved. It kept the visitors goalless until the middle of the second quarter, while it scored three in the first 13 minutes. Honved water polo players started coming back after they found themselves 0:3 down and leveled several times (3:3, 4:4, 6:6, 9:9). Eger’s Doczi set the final score with 36 seconds left on the clock, and the hosts recorded a consolation win.
