Played earlier: Olympiacos – Chios 18:5

Just a day after earning a significant victory over Jadran in the Champions League (13:12), Vouliagmeni hosted its big rival Apollon in the Greek Cup eighth finals.

The team coached by Vladimir Vujasinovic was tired after the match with Jadran, but it managed to find its rhythm in time. The first quarter indicated that the game would become a flood of goals. Apollon led 7:5 at the first break. In the middle of the second quarter, the visitors still had a 2-goal advantage (9:7). But, Vouliagmeni leveled at 9:9 before the end of the first half. The hosts entered the final quarter leading 15:13. Apollon caught up with the Champions League club in the fourth period (15:15). Still, the finish belonged to Vouliagmeni, which recorded an 18:16 win.

Chania upset PAOK in a very balanced match. The visitors from Thessaloniki had a slim 6:5 advantage at the middle break, but Chania dominated the third quarter and turned around the one-goal deficit into a 10:8 lead. PAOK halved the distance at 9:10 and 10:11. The visitors had the last attack in the match but failed to score and Chania went to the quarters.

An encounter between Glyfada and Palaio Faliro was very exciting, too. Glyfada recorded a 10:9 victory in a match with a lot of twists and turns. Palaio Faliro took a flying start and rushed to a 4:0 lead. Early in the second period, the visitors had a 5:2 advantage. Glyfada came back, leveled at 5:5. After the middle break, the hosts went in front – 6:5 and 7:6. But, Palaio Faliro made a new turn. The visiting side led 8:7 before the final eight minutes. In the middle of the fourth period, Palaio Faliro had a 9:8 advantage. However, Glyfada’s Sargetakis netted the last two goals in the game. Two minutes and 18 seconds before the end, he scored for 10:9. In the remaining time, Glyfada kept a minimal lead.

There was not much excitement in other matches.

Peristeri beat Panionios thanks to a strong defense (9:6). Ydraikos started slowly against Ilysiakos, but it achieved a comfortable 16:8 victory. Panathinaikos beat AEK 10:6, downing the rival in a 6:2 second half. Ethnikos trashed Nireas Chalandriou (18:11)

The draw for the quarterfinals took place today. The quarterfinal matches are scheduled for the next Wednesday. The winners will advance to the Final Four.

Quarterfinals

Chania – Olympiacos

Panathinaikos – Peristeri

Glyfada – Vouliagmeni
