Festival of goals in Hungary: Szolnok edges out Miskolc

The highlight of the 12th round of the Hungarian League was the encounter between Szolnok and Miskolc. The big rivals didn’t disappoint their fans. After a hard-fought battle, Szolnok edged out Miskolc in flood of goals – 16:15.

Ferencvaros and OSC had no hard tasks in the 12th round. Ferencvaros blew away Debrecen 16:7, while OSC was better than Honved (17:5).

Eger beat BVSC 12:7 in the derby of the round in Group B.

Szolnok defeated Miskolc and cemented 2nd place in Group A two rounds before the end of the current phase of the competition. After 14th round, the teams ranked 1st – 4th in each group will continue the league in the group for places 1st- 8th. The other clubs will play in the group for the classification 9th – 16th place.

Miskolc scored the first two goals in the match, but Szolnok went ahead thanks to Szeghalmi’s goal in the last second of the first period – 4:3. From that point, the hosts were leading for most of the time, but Miskolc followed them and leveled the score several times (5:5, 7:7, 8:8, 9:9). Szolnok entered the last period with a 12:11 advantage. The home team opened the final quarter with four goals in a row and jumped to a 16:11 lead with three minutes to go. But, Miskolc didn’t give up and reduced the gap to one. Just 31 seconds from the end, Ognjen Stojanovic scored for 15:16. However, Szolnok managed to keep the win.

Ferencvaros Led by Denes Varga and Nikola Jaksic (each scored five goals), demolished Debrecen 16:7.

UVSE was the only visiting team that recorded a win on Day 12 in Group A. UVSE defeated last-placed Tatabanya 11:8 and saved a chance to reach the 4th place before the 14th round. UVSE is still in 5th place with a point fewer than 4th-placed PVSK, which defeated Szeged today (15:11).

Eger defeated BVSC in the big match of the day in Group B. Deep into the third period, BVSC, the visiting team, trailed only by a goal (5:6). But, after that, Eger kept BVSC goalless for more than 10 minutes. The hosts did an excellent job in the attack, they earned a 10:5 lead early in the fourth period and maintained a 5-goal advantage until the final buzzer.

The group-leader OSC demolished Honved 17:5 with five goals from Andrija Prlainovic.

Vasas defeated Szentes 8:6 and collected three points that might be very important in the group for the places 9th – 16th. Vasas will play in that group for sure, while Szentes still have a very slim chance to climb to 4th place before the 14th round.
