Favourites make no mistake, Honved edges out Kaposvari

Favourites made no mistake in the 8th round of the Hungarian League. Ferencvaros, Eger, Szolnok, OSC, Miskolc defeated their respective rivals convincingly.
Only one match saw a big battle – Honved edged out Kaposvari 13:12.

Ferencvaros cruised to a 23:8 win over Szeged. The titleholder had already built a 7:0 advantage before Szeged scored its first goal. Toni Nemet, with 5 goals, was the best scorer.

Szolnok needed a while to break PVSK Pecs. It took almost 10 minutes before Szolnok scored the 1st goal in the match. PVSK was able to equalise on two occasions (1:1, 2:2). But, Szolnok earned a nice 7:3 lead early in the third period and didn’t let PVSK come back.

UVSE was the only visiting team which recorded a win in the 8th round. The team from Budapest visited Debrecen. Deep into the first period, UVSE earned a 4:1 lead and managed to keep the distance until the end – 13:10.

Miskolc defeated last-placed Tatabanya with ease – 13:5.

OSC hosted Vasas in the Budapest derby. OSC killed all excitements quickly in the encounter between two former European champions. In the 14th minute, the home team led 9:1. Ferenc Salamon and Drasko Brguljan were the best scorers (4 goals each), while OSC’s goalkeeper Branislav Mitrovic was outstanding with 16 saves.

The encounter between Eger and Szentes was an even contest until 3:3. At halftime, Eger, the home team in this match, had a 9:5 advantage. After the balanced third period (2:2), Eger, led by Norbert Hosnyanszky (6 goals), dominated the 4th quarter and achieved a 17:8 victory.

The most interesting match of the day was the clash of Honved and Kaposvari. Honved had an opening 3:0 lead, but the visitors from Kaposvar took control and they went ahead twice in the middle of the second quarter (5:4 and 6:5). Honved produced a 3:0 rush to went 8:6 up in the 4th minute of the third period. The hosts even had a 4-goal advantage -11:7 (21st minute), but Kaposvari cut the deficit to 1 in the middle of the last quarter (10:11). Honved entered the last minute with a 13:11 advantage, while Kaposvari’s consolation goal came too late – in the last second.
