Jug storms past two rivals in two days

Jug Dubrovnik collected six points in two days to move to first place in the Croatian League. The reigning champion beat Mornar 15:7 in the match of Day 6 on Tuesday. A day later, Jug traveled to Makarska and convincingly defeated Galeb 20:6in the seventh round.

After two new wins, the Dubrovnik-based team leads the race with 18 points.

Day 6

Jug – Mornar 15:7 (5:0, 3:2, 5:3, 2:2)

Day 7

Galeb – Jug 9:20 (2:7, 2:3, 1:6, 4:4)

Medvescak – Zadar 1952 19:11 (5:3, 3:3, 5:2, 6:3)

Primorje – Jadran S 5:12 (0:2, 3:2, 1:7, 1:1)

Mornar – Mladost 7:22 (played last week)

POSK – KPK Korcula 12:5 (played last week)

After more than a month, Jug played a home match (meanwhile, a few matches were postponed, and Jug had just one game – against Primorje in Rijeka). The titleholder hosted Mornar Split in the postponed match of Day 6. The home team opened the game with seven goals in a row and earned a 7:0 lead in the 10th minute and there was no way back for Mornar. Russian Daniil Merkulov scored led Jug with four goals.

Jug did a clean job in Makarska a day after winning over Mornar. As expected, Jug outplayed Galeb 20:9. Although a few key players missed the match (Obradovic, Loncar), Jug easily collected the points. Loren Fatovic, Daniil Merkulov, Marko Zuvela, and Roberto Radic scored three goals each.

Jadran Split defeated Primorje in Rijeka. The first two quarters were more-less balanced. Jadran led 4:3 at halftime. But, in the third period, the Split-based side smashed the home side and entered the last period with an 11:4 lead. Each team scored a goal in the final eight minutes. The best scorers were Jadran’s Rino Buric and Zvonimir Butic (three goals each).

Medvescak beat Zadar 19:11. Zadar remains the only team with no points.

Day 4

Crvena Zvezda- Nais 27:6 (6:1, 6:3, 8:1, 7:1)

Crvena Zvezda recovered from a shocking 5:16 to Radnicki in the derby of Round 7 last week. The “Red-whites” hosted Nais in the postponed match of Day 4. Zvezda took the points easier than it was expected – 27:6. More than a half goals of the winning team were scored by four players – center-forward Milos Vukicevic, Veljko Tankosic, Petar Kasum, Lazar Vickovic (four goals each).
