After the two competition days in the Qualification Round 2 of the Euro Cup, four teams have already secured their spots in the quarterfinals.

Miskolc , Ortigia, Eger and Mataro advanced to the next round. Noisy-le-Sec , Montpellier, Solaris and Mediterrani have no chances to reach the quarterfinals.

Encounters that will be played on Day 3 will decide group winners.

LEN Euro Cup, Qualification Round II, Day 2

Group E (Sibenik)

Solaris – Miskolc 5:11 (0:3, 1:4, 3:3, 1:1)

Solaris: Erak 1, Strkalj 1, Herceg 1, Vlahovic 1, Sabioni 1.
Miskolc: Misic 4, Stojanovic 3, Lorincz 2, Milicic 1, Banicevic 1.

Ortigia – Mediterrani 12:7 (4:0, 3:2, 4:1, 1:4)

Ortigia: Giacoppo 6, Di Luciano 2, Napolitano 2, Rossi 1, Vidovic 1.
Mediterrani: Frigola 3, Perez 3, Gorria 1.

Miskolc defeated Solaris, which didn’t manage to repeat a solid performance from yesterday’s match against Ortigia. Miskolc scored six goals before the hosts found the net for the first time, in the 16th minute. At halftime, Miskolc had a 6-goal advantage (7:1) and it maintained a big gap until the end. Solaris “woke up” after the middle break, but the Hungarians’ win was never in danger.

The second match of the day Ortigia-Mediterrani in this group also didn’t offer excitements, as Ortigia dominated from the opening whistle and rushed to a 7:1 advantage by the middle of the second quarter. Before the fourth period, Ortigia, led by its captain Massimo Giacoppo (6 goals this evening) built an 11:3 lead and slowed down in the last eight minutes.

1 Miskolc (HUN) 2 – 6
2 Ortigia (ITA) 2 – 6
3 Mediterrani (ESP) 2 – 0
4 Solaris (CRO) 2 – 0

Group F (Mataro)

Mataro – Noisy-le-Sec 10:9 (2:3, 4:2, 3:2, 1:2)

Quadis CN Mataro: Minguez 4, Bertran 2, Daura 1, Guimaraes 1, Yanez 1. Veich 1.
Noisy-le-Sec: A. Petkovic 2, Marzouki 2, Pesteric 2, Pliskevich 1, Kolarik 1, Peisson 1.

Montpellier – Eger 5:16 (2:5, 1:4, 2:3, 0:4)

Montpellier: D. Zivkovic 2, Ivankovic 2, Mustur 1.
Eger: Hosnyanszky 3, Vlachopoulos 3, Magyar 3, Baksa 2, S. Rasovic 1, Csacsovszky 1, Santa 1, Decker 1, Gyarfas 1.

Eger easily defeated Montpellier to book the ticket for the quarterfinals, while Mataro joined the Hungarians after beating Noisy-le-Sec in a hard-fought battle.

Noisy-le-Sec stunned Mataro in the opening minutes and took a 3:0 lead after just 3 minutes and 16 seconds of play. However, the hosts managed to recover from the shock. Firstly, Mataro equalised in the 11th minute (4:4). After that, the Spaniards added two goals for a 6:4 lead. Noisy levelled the score early in the third period (6:6). Then came Mataro’s 3:0 series for a 9:6 advantage, which proved vital in the Spaniards’ win. Noisy managed to come close (8:9) with 01:45 remaining on the clock. Minguez found the net 36 seconds from the end to give Mataro a 10:8 lead. Just 9 seconds later, Noisy scored its 9th goal. But it was too late, as Mataro kept the ball and the victory in the remaining time.

1 Eger (HUN) 2 – 6
2 Mataro (ESP) 2 – 6
3 Noisy-le-Sec (FRA) 2 – 0
4 Montpellier (FRA) 2 – 0
