Officially: Olympiacos welcomes Marko Bijac

Olympiacos officially announced that Croatia’s goalkeeper Marko Bijac arrived at the club.

Bijac’s coming to Piraeus has been one of the topics about which has been written a lot in the news about the transfers in the last few weeks, and it has been, finally, confirmed today.

Marko Bijac, who is coming from Pro Recco, signed a 2-year contract. Bijac is Olympiacos’ fourth reinforcement, after Filip Filipovic, Andro Buslje and Djuro Radovic. We are still waiting for the official confirmation that Ioannis Fountoulis, who left Ferencvaros, returns to Olympiacos. Besides Fountoulis, one more Greek will probably return to Olympiacos –center-forward Christodoulos Kolomvos, who played for Turkish Enka between 2017 and 2021.

Bijac started playing water polo at Jug Dubrovnik. He was part of Jug’s senior team for five seasons (2012/13 – 2017/18) and was Jug’s captain (2015-2018). In 2018, he moved to Pro Recco.

Since 2013, Bijac has been a member of the Croatian national team. He has won three medals at the World Championships – one gold (2017), one silver (2015), two bronzes (2013, 2019), the silver medal at the 2016 Olympic Games, silver in the 2019 World League, bronze at the 2018 European Championship, etc.

Bijac has lifted the trophy of the Champions League twice – as Jug’s captain in 2016 and with Pro Recco this season. He was one of Recco’s best players at the Final Eight in Belgrade last week.

He was voted the best player of the year in 2017 by LEN.

“I am very happy and proud to come to Olympiakos, the club that has such a rich history. I hope that I will help the team to achieve the highest goals both in Greece and in Europe. I can’t wait to start playing in front of the best fans in the world! I will see you soon”, Bijac said for the official website of Olympiacos.
