Today, Ferencvaros’ winning streak in the Hungarian Championships ended (before today’s derby, the reigning champion had a 21-0 record), but the league leader can be satisfied with the tie. “Fradi” kept a 6-point advantage ahead of the 2nd-placed OSC with four rounds remaining until the regular season.

Vasas is in 3rd place, with just one point fewer than OSC, but Vasas played one match more.

The derby in the Nyeki Imre pool was an excellent and exciting game. OSC trailed most of the time, but it managed to secure a point at the finish.

Ferencvaros, which played without Szilard Jansik, Gergo Fekete and Nemanja Ubovic, dictated the pace for three quarters. Until the beginning of the fourth period, it seemed that the visitors would defeat OSC for the fifth time this season.

OSC was never in front. In the first half, the hosts equalized just once (2:2). Ferencvaros earned a 3-goal lead early in the second quarter and maintained it until the final quarter. Viktor Vadovics, the best scorer of the match made it 5:2 in the 9th minute. Two minutes later, he converted a man-up in Ferencvaros’ quick attack for 6:2.

But, OSC came back into the game. Burian scored from a 6 on 5 in the 2nd minute of the second half and cut the deficit to one (5:6). Ferencvaros rebuilt a 3-goal lead quickly after goals from Argyropoulos and Viktor Vadovics, who found the net from a counter-attack for 8:5. OSC reduced the gap to one in the middle of the quarter (7:8). Still, Ferencvaros entered the final quarter with a 3-goal advantage (11:8).

OSC opened the fourth period excellently, scoring three goals in the first three minutes. Vince Vigvari leveled at 11:11 with a fine lob in the 27th minute. The teams traded the goals in the last five minutes. Ferencvaros took a one-goal lead twice, but OSC equalized both times. Adam Nagy put Ferencvaros in front (13:12). OSC had a man-up in its last possession and Daniel Angyal converted it with a long-distance shot to 13:13 with 17 seconds to go. After that, Ferencvaros earned a man-up in the dying seconds, but Vendel Vigvari missed the target two seconds before the buzzer, and the rivals shared the points.

Vasas played two matches this week and recorded two big wins. First, it beat Kaposvar 17:8 in the rescheduled match of the 24th round. After that, it easily defeated PVSK Pecs in the first game of the 22nd matchday.

Szolnok beat the bottom-placed Szentes 9:7. It was expected that Szolnok would have an easy task, but Szentes didn’t surrender without a big battle. In the middle of the second period, it led 3:2. Szolnok responded with two goals, but Szentes leveled at 4:4. Szolnok took control and earned a 3-goal lead (7:4) in the 19th minute. Szentes tried to come back again and cut the deficit (6:7) eight minutes later. Three minutes before the end, Szolnok re-built a 3-goal lead (9:6) and secured the victory.

There were several Budapest derbies in the 22nd round. One of them was an encounter between Honved and BVSC. Honved, the home team, recorded a narrow 10:9 win. Still, it wasn’t as close a contest as the final result. The first quarter was balanced (2:2). BVSC’s Csapo netted the first goal in the second quarter. In the 12th minute, he gave his team a 3:2 lead. But, that was BVSC’s last advantage in the match. Honved produced a 5:0 run and turned around the one-goal deficit into a 7:3 lead (the 19th minute). Honved controlled the game. It had an 8:4 advantage. A minute before the end, the hosts were three steps ahead of BVSC (10:7). BVSC’s Matyas Meszaros scored two goals in the last 35 seconds, but it was too late. He found the net for 9:10, two seconds before the end.

A very interesting game was played in Szeged, where Szeged and Miskolc shared the points (10:10). It was an even contest from the beginning. In the middle of the final quarter, Szeged had a 10:8 advantage, but Miskolc scored the last two goals and secured a point. Nikola Brkic netted his 5th goal with 93 seconds to go and set the final score – 10:10.

UVSE defeated KSI 12:9 and climbed from 11th to 9th place.
