Mladost flies, Jadran wins in Split derby

Favourites didn’t have very hard tasks in the 7th round of the Regional League. Leader Mladost, Jug and Jadran Herceg Novi jumped passed the hurdles with big wins. The most interesting match of the day was the Split derby, which saw a battle between Jadran and Mornar. Jadran, which was the favourite, recorded a 9:7 win.

Mladost showed no mercy to a young team of Partizan. The titleholder beat the visitors from Belgrade 21:9. The Zagreb-based side, killed all excitements quickly, as they led 5:1 in the middle of the 1st period. Midway through the second quarter Mladost was 8:4 up. By the 18th minute, they doubled a distance – 12:4. Partizan couldn’t come back. Mladost’s experienced centre forwards Josip Vrlic and Cosmin Radu were unstoppable this evening. Vrlic scored 5 goals, Radu found the net 4 times. The best scorer in Partizan was Filip Radojevic (3).

Jadran Herceg Novi needed a lot of time to break Crvena Zvezda in Belgrade, as the score was 4:4 deep into the 2nd period. After that, the visitors nailed 7 unanswered goals and jumped to an 11:4 lead. They kept the hosts scoreless for more than 18 minutes. Zvezda its 5th goal scored a minute before the end for the final score – 5:11. Djuro Radovic topped the scorers’ list with 5 goals.

Mornar earned an early 3:1 lead in the encounter between the two Split-based teams. Jadran equalised by the middle break (3:3), while it took control in the third quarter. Before the final eight minutes, Jadran had a 2-goal advantage (6:4). Jadran kept the advantage in the last eight minutes despite Mornar managed to cut the deficit on three occasions (5:6, 6:7, 7:8). A minute before the last buzzer, Viskovic scored from an extra for Jadran’s 9:7 victory.

Budva finally recorded its first win this season. The Montenegrins defeated Sabac easily than expected – 12:6. After less than 10 minutes of play, Budva had a 6-goal lead (7:1) which determined the rest of the encounter. The man of the match was Savo Cetkovic (5 goals).

Jug secured a win over Primorac in the first half of the match. At halftime, the Dubrovnik-based side led 9:3, while they had an 11:4 advantage deep into the third quarter. After that, the hosts slowed down.
